Alyssa Heeb

Hello there, it’s so nice to meet you! My name is Alyssa Heeb (she/her/hers) and I am an Academic Advisor and Program Coordinator for the Yellow Cluster. When I started my undergraduate journey as a first-year student at Sacramento State, I was six hours away from home, didn’t know a single person, and little did I know that a pandemic would be right around the corner. On top of this, I spent my time taking different classes and discovering what felt “right” for my academic and career path. After taking a psychology class for elective credit, I knew it was the right path for me and switched my major for the third time. I started discovering through my classes and various on-campus positions that I had a passion for advocating for student success, mental health awareness, and helping students navigate their academic and career journeys.

This led me to pursue a graduate program straight after completing my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology where I completed my Master of Science in Counseling, with a specialty in Career Counseling at Sacramento State. During this time, I did my graduate internship at the UC Davis Career Center and completed the following year as a full-time Career Advisor as part of the Liberal Arts and Business team. This experience shaped a love for the UC Davis community and I learned so much about how a student’s academic journey coincides with their future career journey.

 Above all, I developed a holistic advising philosophy grounded in the understanding that student paths evolve. I learned that supporting students means reassuring them that it is okay to pivot, learn, and redefine their goals as they grow, empowering them to thoughtfully navigate their education and long-term aspirations. My own educational path reinforced the value of stepping outside one’s comfort zone, actively utilizing campus resources, and remembering that there are no stupid questions. As an advisor, I aim to create an inclusive, safe space where students feel heard, collaborate hand-in-hand on their academic and career goals, and feel celebrated at every step of their journey.

Fun Facts: I enjoy trying new restaurants and coffee shops, keeping up with Taylor Swift, exploring pretty spots to watch the sunset, keeping my cat, Sable, out of trouble, and finding excuses to attend another concert.
